The Super Visa is a type of multiple entry visa that allows the parents or grandparents of Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents to temporarily enter Canada for periods of up to five years at a time. The maximum total validity period of this document is 10 years, not including extensions.
IRCC now allows Super Visa applicants to pay for medical insurance in monthly instalments. This rule makes it easier for families to be together in Canada!
Where can I apply?
You can apply on paper or online. Generally speaking you will need to prove that you are the parent or grandparent of the Canadian citizen or Permanent Residence.
I am from a visa-exempt country, do I need a Super Visa?
If you are Visa-exempt, you can come to Canada with an eTA for 6 months at a time. If you would like to take advantage of the five years visiting period, you can still apply for the Super Visa.
Super visas can be extended
If your five years visit is almost finished, you can apply to have it extended. You must submit your application before your five years are finished, or before your super visa expires. By applying for an extension, you have maintained status.
